I tried removing the checkbook for integrated windows authentication and I reset IIS. I don't get prompted for my password, instead I get 'You are not authorized to view this page'.

Any thoughts here???

Thanks,

What type of permissions are set up on the virtual directory? Sounds like
you might have integrated authentication (which -- if memory serves -- is IE
only).

Hi,

I need to debug a webpage that I've written in DotNet 1.1. The page looks
great in Internet Explorer but when I try the following page
http://localhost/scfbintranet/InformationTechnology/ImplementationCheckl
ist.aspx in Opera, I get prompted for a username and password for the
localhost machine. My machine is set up as a web server, using IIS, so I can
run our companies Internet and Intranet sites on my machine.

Does anyone know why I get prompted in Opera? If so, what is the work around
so I can make my web sites work across multiple Internet Browsers and not
just in Internet Explorer.

I'm not really all that familiar with Opera but if you navigate to
"opera:config" you are presented with a configuration page. If you select
the "Network" option, among the available settings there is one labeled
"Enable NTLM". I assume that selecting this option enables integrated
authentication.

Thanks for that advice. I tried that but it didn't work. I checked the "opera:config" just now and I currently have the "Enable NTLM" checked.

Dude, thanks for that information. I just tried it and I can test now under LocalHost using Firefox. It doesn't answer my question for Opera yet but I've got good news for that. The same error I was seeing with my page in Opera is occurring with Firefox. I'll be able to test on Firefox and when I've got it working correctly, I can put it in production and try it in Opera.

Thanks for the help.

BTW--you can actually get firefox on windows to pass NTLM credentials to
specified hosts by:

- navigating to about:config
- typing 'ntlm' in the Filter bar, and finding the preference
named network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris
- double-click that pref & enter a comma-delimited list of
host names (e.g., "localhost,my_server,my_other_server).

I learned that in a blog posting somewhere...

NTLM is not complete in Opera - their working on it!

There is a work around though this Blog has the details:-
http://muffinresearch.co.uk/archives/2006/04/11/opera-and-ntlm-authentic
ation/

basically you set up a proxy on your machine that handles the ntlm stuff
and you point opera at the proxy

although leaving your ntlm password in the cfg file has security
implications.........

So it could be useful to get your site Opera ready once the Opera guys
have sorted out NTLM.

Opera is great for standards compliance; the other two should be treated
as the exception IMO
